This domain groups the arithmetic that sustainability managers and ESG analysts repeat every reporting cycle: converting purchased fuel quantities into Scope 1 tCO2e using DEFRA or IPCC emission factors, translating grid electricity and steam consumption into Scope 2 market-based and location-based figures, and aggregating supplier questionnaire responses into Scope 3 category totals. The calculators also cover product-level carbon footprint (PCF) per functional unit following ISO 14067 boundaries, water intensity per tonne of output for cooling and process water, energy intensity against revenue or production, and VOC emission inventories derived from solvent mass balances (purchase minus recovery minus stock change). GWP conversion handles the usual non-CO2 species — methane, nitrous oxide, common HFCs — so that fugitive refrigerant logs and process vent measurements can be rolled up into a single CO2-equivalent footprint for internal dashboards.

Who these calculators are for

The target users are practitioners doing the numerical work behind sustainability reports rather than the disclosure-authoring or assurance roles. A sustainability or ESG analyst assembling the annual inventory will use Scope 1, Scope 2 and GWP tools to turn utility bills and refrigerant logs into tCO2e. A carbon reporting officer preparing internal management packs can check emissions intensity and energy intensity against revenue, production, or floor area. An EHS engineer collecting site-level data uses VOC and water footprint calculators to cross-check permit compliance inputs before they are formalised. A supply-chain analyst sending Scope 3 questionnaires to suppliers can pre-compute expected ranges for categories 1, 4 and 11. These tools are not sufficient on their own for formal CDP or TCFD submission, third-party limited or reasonable assurance under ISO 14064-3, or regulatory filings such as CSRD digital tagging.

Standards and emission factor sources

Scope boundary logic and dual reporting follow the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, the Scope 2 Guidance (location-based and market-based methods with residual-mix and supplier-specific factors), and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard with its 15 upstream and downstream categories. Organisational inventories are structured per ISO 14064-1 with quantification and reduction practice from ISO 14064-2 and verification expectations from ISO 14064-3. Product-level footprint tools align with ISO 14067 and PAS 2050, supported by life-cycle inventory principles from ISO 14040/14044. GWP-100 characterisation factors use IPCC AR6 values including CH4 = 28 and N2O = 265, with AR5 values retained where regulation still requires them. Emission factors draw on IEA grid intensities, DEFRA/BEIS fuel factors and EPA defaults; water footprint work references the Water Footprint Network methodology and ISO 14046.

What is out of scope

These calculators are deliberately narrow and should not be confused with enterprise carbon accounting platforms. They do not provide LCA-software-grade process inventories — there is no unit-process database, no allocation engine for co-products, and no Monte Carlo uncertainty propagation across a product system. They do not monetise externalities using social cost of carbon or natural capital pricing, and they do not author CDP responses, TCFD scenario narratives, SBTi target validations, or CSRD ESRS datapoint tables. Scope 3 category outputs are generic totals; mapping them onto a specific accounting system's cost-centre or activity hierarchy remains the analyst's job. There is no real-time meter or BMS integration, no SCADA ingestion, and no automated refresh against supplier portals — inputs are entered manually or pasted from spreadsheets.
